Go-Down & Shaft Of The Week 03/28/11 – 04/03/11
Every Monday we will be awarding two players a week for their contributions to weekly fantasy point scoring leagues. Continue reading to see our award winners for the prior scoring period (scoring period 23):
GO-DOWN OF THE WEEK (player who likely helped their fantasy owners earn a win)
SHAFT OF THE WEEK (player who cost their fantasy owners a win)
Carmelo Anthony (SF / NYK) excelled over the course of scoring period 23 after calling the upcoming games “must-win” scenarios. The Knicks have clinched a playoff spot and New York fans can rejoice… until they get swept!
For these reasons, Carmelo Anthony wins the “Go Down” award for fantasy period 23. Over the course of 3 games, he accumulated 136 fantasy points on the week (45.33 fantasy points per game) and certainly helped lead many of his owners to a key victory during the fantasy playoffs. He was started in 97% of leagues and outperformed his season averages by 11.54 fantasy points per game. In effect, ‘Melo gave owners 4 games worth of production in only 3 games.
Honorable Mentions: LeBron James (SF / MIA) with 186 fantasy points in 4 games & Jordan Crawford (SG / WAS) - last week’s “on the radar” player – with 148 fantasy points in 4 games.
On the Radar for scoring period 24: Andray Blatche (PF / WAS) with 130 fantasy points in 4 games & Jerryd Bayless (SG / PG / TOR) with 81 fantasy points in 3 games.
Jason Kidd (PG / DAL) is a shell of his former self. Long past his prime, Kidd is more of a “name” player than anything else. This past scoring period, Kidd offered his owners no assistance and likely led a decent number of owners straight out of the playoffs (started in 78% of leagues). He recorded 50 fantasy points in 4 games (12.5 fantasy points per game) this past scoring period and definitely screwed owners in all fantasy formats. Kidd was around 8.5 fantasy points per game below his season average and narrowly defeated Mo Williams (PG / LAC) for this week’s trophy. For these reasons, Kidd earned the “Shaft” award for fantasy period 23. When you break down the total, J-Kidd put up less total fantasy points during the week than he normally does in 2 and a half games. If there is a lock-out after the season, let’s hope Kidd keeps his word and retires! Thanks for nothing.
Honorable Mentions: Mo Williams (PG / LAC) with 38 fantasy points in 3 games & Wilson Chandler (SF / DEN) with 40 fantasy points in 3 games.
On the Radar for scoring period 24: Dorell Wright (SF / GSW) with 64 fantasy points in 3 games. It’s time to get back to early season form!
